2018 International HET Meet
Wisconsin Dells, WI (“The Waterpark Capital of the World”)
Wisconsin Dells is known as the “Waterpark Capital of the World” with the largest concentration of indoor and outdoor waterparks of any place on the planet. So, naturally when you think Wisconsin Dells, you think water, water and more water. Water parks, water slides, water rides and the fun and adventure you can have in the sun and in the water. It will be a great place to bring the kids and grandkids giving us time with two of our favorite things Hudsons and family. In fact, our theme will focus on Hudsons as the Ultimate Family Car.
While the waterparks will be a favorite with the young and young at heart, there are plans to include the kids and grandkids (or great grandkids) in some special activities. It is only fitting that the host hotel, Chula Vista Resort is the most complete family resort in the Wisconsin Dells. Much like French Lick, host of the 2014 International Meet, Chula Vista is truly a destination resort. It has remained a family owned resort for 65 years now. It prides itself on offering “the best of both worlds” adventure and relaxation.
The word “Chula” means beautiful in Spanish. That is where the Resort and its scenic location on hundreds of acres along the Wisconsin River with a beautiful river walk and walking trails is different from other Wisconsin Dells waterparks. For the mild side there is a giant outdoor hot tub set amongst the 100 foot Norway Pines with views of the Wisconsin River, golf on their 18 hole course, relax with a Swedish massage at Spa del Sol or simply enjoy outdoor dining while watching the sunset. Just want to chill and enjoy our Hudson made autos? In this beautiful setting, that works too.
The Resort has 640 luxurious guestrooms, suites, villas and condos. It is a big property so, for those wanting or needing it, there will be scheduled shuttle service between the hotel and the HET reserved parking and swap space areas. The exceptional Junior Suites or Fairway Villas room rate includes the daily resort fee and 6 waterpark passes for $139 and is good for 3 days before and 3 days after the meet. These rooms have a refrigerator, microwave, sofa, table and chairs for eating and a patio or balcony. There are also family suites which sleep up to 8 and have a rate of $179 including 6 waterpark passes. If your clan is too large for these rooms, or you are just looking for luxury other rooms including 2 & 3 bedroom condos are available at significantly discounted rates and include 8 waterpark passes. If your room accommodates more than the number of people that the contract provides waterpark passes for, additional passes can be obtained for the entire week for an additional $10. As this July meet is approaching the Dells high season, make reservations early to ensure you get the category of room you want. Reservations are being accepted starting after the 2016 Chattanooga International Meet, please call (844) 395-8078 and use the NEW Booking ID E27838-Code HET 2018. Never been to a Hudson, Essex, Terraplane International Meet? The Chicago Milwaukee Chapter invites you to come get your feet wet! Remember you must indicate HET2018 when making your reservation. The International Meet is preceded by the Central Regional Meet which runs Sunday, July 8th and Monday, July 9th and all are invited to join us for that as well. Contact Cheri Holz (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions. Website: www.chulavistaresort.com Video presentation // National Meet Registration Form // Event Details // Schedule
Planned tours Details
TUESDAY, JULY 10 IS FULL - WE’VE ADDED WEDNESDAY, JULY 11
SURF & TURF DINNER CRUISE: This evening enjoy the combination of beautiful scenery, live entertainment and fine food on a 2 ¼ hour Surf & Turf dinner cruise on the Wisconsin River. On Tuesday we will have a cash bar available on the patio for an hour prior to departure and on the boat as well. You don’t need to be on the cruise to join us on the patio for a drink and the great view! This boat is handicap accessible. If you are on Tuesday’s cruise and unable to climb the Chula stairs we have a special boarding spot just down the road from the Resort that you can drive to then early board the boat by arrangement when you check in at registration. For the Wednesday cruise, shuttles will pick up those registered at 5:30PM in front of the main Chula Vista hotel lobby and you will early board the board before cruising to downtown Dells where a group of 32 who previously reserved the cruise will join you. Once boarded on either evening, sit back, relax and enjoy the sandstone cliffs and rock formations along the Upper Dells as the boat makes its way to Witches Gulch where the boat will dock and you can enjoy a leisurely walk through the torch lit paths of this stunning, narrow canyon which is another spot discovered by HH Bennett. On your return to the boat, enjoy an exquisite steak and lobster dinner with all the sides while listening to onboard musical entertainment and watching the sunset. $58 per person. Space is very limited for Wednesday’s surf and turf cruise.
As the Surf & Turf dinner cruise probably isn’t something your kids would enjoy, on Tuesday evening we will offer a movie, popcorn and lemonade and maybe an art project for them in a supervised environment in the Sierra Vista Hospitality Room at no charge. All we ask is that you have them fed before you drop them off and then go ENJOY this opportunity for a wonderful, if not romantic, evening on the dinner cruise; but DON’T FORGET to pick them up on your return!
WEDNESDAY, JULY 11
ORIGINAL WISCONSIN DELLS DUCK TOUR: This afternoon at 1:00 we will board our “Duck buses” that will leave Chula on a Duck Parade to take us to board The Original Wisconsin Dells Ducks in operation for more than 70 years for a land/water adventure unlike any other on their exclusive routes through the most scenic parts of the Wisconsin Dells. Our amphibious Ducks will splash into both the Wisconsin River and Lake Delton, thrilling both young and old alike with a combination of excitement, history, humor and nature. Our special rates are $25 adults and $10 for kids ages 3-15, kids under 3 are free. We’re hoping for a Guinness World Record Duck Parade! Join us to make this happen.
THURSDAY, JULY 12
IOLA ROAD TRIP: We will head to Iola, WI for opening day of the Iola Car Show & Swap Meet where today Hudson will be the featured car. Iola is one of the biggest and best car shows and swap meets in America. It is truly a must see event for auto enthusiasts and for those in Hudsons it will be FREE, so plan to buddy up. If it is not already on your bucket list--it should be. There are over 300 acres that showcase more than 2200 cars with 4200 swap spaces and 1000 car corral spaces. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and have a FULL tank of gas in your car for our early morning departure on this approximate 100 mile one way, 2 ¼ hour drive.
FRIDAY, JULY 13
JET BOAT ADVENTURE: This morning we offer some high-speed, high-splash fun on a Jet Boat Adventure. We will board the ultra-modern Jet Boats from their Chula Vista dock for a 50 minute adventure featuring the fantastic natural beauty of both the Upper and Lower Dells of the Wisconsin River combined with exhilarating slides, spin-outs and power stops made possible by the unique hull design that provides stability and a draft of just six inches when underway. Our rates are $25 for adults and $10 for kids ages 4-15. No one under 4 is allowed on the Jet Boats and you must be able to sit up on your own. Those unable to climb up and down the stairs at Chula may still enjoy our reduced rates, then take their ticket downtown to board.
DOLLARS FOR DOC: Join us this afternoon as we support the HETHS with DOLLARS FOR DOC at Dells Raceway Park. For a minimum donation of $10 you can take your Hudson out on the track for some hot laps on this ⅓ mile asphalt track. This is not a lead follow event. This is just you and the track, driving as fast or slow as you want for as many laps as you want. That’s just pure fun! (We will present the check representing those donations to Calvin at our banquet Saturday evening). On your return to the Resort we hope you will continue to support the HETHS at its fashion show and auction this evening.
SATURDAY, JULY 14
POLICE ESCORTED TOUR TO DOWNTOWN DELLS: Following this morning’s General Business Meeting we will head to our Hudsons for a police escorted parade to downtown Dells led by Doc Hudson. The officers will have the main street running through the business district blocked to all traffic as we approach, drive through town and head to our parking area just off the main drag. Here we will be able to share the Hudson made vehicles we love with the many Dells visitors who will be there at the height of the tourist season. Possibly you will want to grab lunch at one of the many downtown restaurants within walking distance of our parking spot or just check out all the unique shops that the downtown Dells has to offer.
BANQUET: Saturday evening we are in Chula Vista’s Grand Ballroom for the International Meet banquet. Our Social Hour will start at 5:00PM with dinner served at 6:00PM. Our banquet choices include: Chicken Marsala, chicken cutlets sautéed in olive oil and deglazed with sweet Italian Marsala wine with oven browned potatoes, Beef Medallions Mondavi, sliced beef medallions braised with red onions, shiitake mushroom and Robert Mondavi Pinot Noir on a bed of buttered fettuccine, and Vegetable Lasagna, layered lasagna noodles, ricotta cheese, fresh vegetable, tomato sauce and Italian cheese blend. All dinners are served with a house salad with Chef’s homemade salad dressing, vegetable garni, freshly baked artisan rolls, hot coffee, brewed decaf, iced or hot tea and milk with apple strudel for dessert. Our children’s meals include 3 or 5 chicken tenders (depending on age/price), fruit cup, macaroni & cheese, a jumbo chocolate chip cookie and white milk.
We are very excited about the family oriented entertainment we have planned for you following dinner. Our entertainer, Matt Dunn, is a top Twin Cities performer. We are fortunate that with his busy schedule he is willing to make the 3 ½ hour drive from Minneapolis/St. Paul to put on a magic show you won’t want to miss. By itself, it’s worth the cost of your dinner. His show is filled with out of this world magic mixed with tons of comedy. Check him out at www.magicianmattdunn.com.
· Breakfast At Chula Vista
A delicious buffet breakfast is available daily from 7AM to 11AM at the Kilbourn City Grill. It offers a huge selection including fresh eggs and omelets served to order, homemade pancakes and waffles, breakfast burritos, pastries and a fresh fruit bar. Our discounted price is $10.95 for adults, $7.95 for youth 6-11 and $4.95 for those 3-t years of age. Tickets will be available at the Resort. If you are up early, or just want a light breakfast, The Market Fresh to Go Cafe across from the hotel registration offers Starbucks Coffee and homemade doughnuts, pastries and muffins
Chula Vista has a NO PET policy. Service dogs are allowed.
· Parking of Het Cars
All HET cars registered for the meet by June 8, 2018 will be assigned a spot in order of manufacture in our designated Hudson parking. Should you change the Hudson you plan to bring after registering, please email Cheri Holz at email@example.com so that we can attempt to keep the Hudsons in correct chronological order.
· Trailer Parking
We are asking all attending to indicate on the registration form if trailer parking will be needed. If so, we will be following up to obtain additional information so we can best utilize our trailer space or know if it will be used in the swap meet area. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT NOT TO TAKE TRAILERS BEYOND THE TRAILER PARKING AS SOME PARKING DOWN BY THE CONDOS AND HOTEL ARE DEAD ENDS!
· Vendor Space
There are no indoor vendor spaces. Please request vendor space when you register. Vendor spaces are free but; all vendors must be current HET members. DRIVING TO CHULA VISTA Chula Vista is located about 5 miles from I 90/94 at exit 87. To avoid the downtown Dells, which we recommend, stay on I 39 to WI16/exit 89B. In approximately 15 miles go straight as the road becomes WI 13. The entrance to Chula Vista is another 2.5 miles ahead on the left. If you are using your GPS use the address 2501 River Rd, Wisconsin Dells 53965 and watch for our signs. We have found if we use our Garmin and just enter Chula Vista Resort it wants to take us beyond the entrance.
· Unable to Drive to The Dells
Wisconsin Dells is serviced by Amtrak’s Empire Builder from Chicago and Minneapolis, Spokane and Portland/Seattle Madison’s airport, the Dane County Regional Airport is served by American Eagle, Delta, Frontier and United Airlines.
